Or perhaps you would like to kick start a diet and begin shedding some excess pounds. Slow down the aging process, clear up your skin, lose pounds gain energy!
Or maybe just elevate your mood and increase your sex drive.
Well, it’s doubtful that you’ll be able to get through everything on this particular checklist all in one day. But with a simple one-day juice cleanse you can experience some of these benefits without jumping in head first into a longer, more involved cleanse.
The art of detoxing and fasting has been practiced for centuries, and the multitude of various methods has invited heaps of praise along with its share of skepticism. The effectiveness of many of these methods have not been scientifically proven, and in fact there are even some safety concerns with some of the more stringent methods. On that note, if you’re on any prescription drugs or suffer from any chronic conditions, please consult your doctor, as even a gentle fast could potentially pose a conflict with your medication or exacerbate those conditions. Even if this doesn’t apply to you, if you are new to the practice and are considering a 5-30 day fast, it is highly recommended that you be patient and do plenty of research into the matter. Everybody is different, and you’re much better off if you know what you’re getting into before finding a cleanse that’s appropriate to your needs.
That said, this is the particular bonus of a one-day juice cleanse. It provides a modest introduction to these age-old practices, it’s relatively risk-free and it doesn’t have to interfere with your daily schedule. You can try it on, see how it feels for you. As you’re still getting nutrients, and as the recipe below is tailored to curb hunger, you’re sure to be surprised at how easy it is. And you may be surprised with the benefits you gain even within such a short time-frame.
So let’s get down to how we do it. The standard-bearer in the field is the following simple but effective recipe:
- ½ a freshly squeezed lemon or lime
- 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
-
- a pinch of cayenne pepper
- 10-14 oz. of room temperature water
Mix well and drink it (it’s actually very tasty). Repeat the process up to 12 times throughout the day. If you’re on the go, just make a couple of 1-liter batches and take it with you. Note that, in that case, the cayenne actually grows more potent the longer it’s in the mix. Personally, that’s just the way I like it, but if you find yourself timid around cayenne, you might want to stick with mixing it in right before consumption. Go normally about your day (though you should probably avoid particularly strenuous activities), don’t bother with meals, but of course feel free to drink regular amounts of water. And that’s it. You’ve done it.
Or just have green juices. A great recipe to try:
cucumber
celery
green leafey veggies
a lemon and a napple
simple and awesome
To get even more from this simple exercise, however, you can also do a bit of prepatory work. In the week leading up to your 1-day cleanse, you can weed out a lot of the toxin-loaded components you may already have in your diet. Nicotine, caffeine, alcohol, dairy products, sugars and meats. The more you can cut down or even eliminate these toxin-fused culprits, the more effective the cleanse will be. Sticking with legumes, fruits and veggies in the week prior is a good way to go.
So give this gentle method and a try and reap the benefits. Good luck!
