Stress, technology, prescribed medication, wrong diet, energy drinks, and more stress!
In today's world almost everyone has had sleep issues at some point.
While there are many over the counter sleep formulas who will put you to sleep, it is much better to take a natural routine.
Often it seems as if the body has forgotten how to sleep. And who could blame them?
Heavy food in the evening, or eating late at night are making it hard for our body to digest and rest at the same time.
No wonder we wake up in the middle of the night!
The same goes for TV, cellphone and basically anything with a screen.
Light is a signal for our body to be awake, so put your phone down an hour or so before your bedtime and pick up a book, a boring one would be perfect. ;)
Lets have a look at natural sleep remedies.
Try different ones , or combinations. We are all such different individuals and what works for someone might not work for yourself.
Tart Cherry Juice
Cherries, especially tart ones, are a natural sleep aid because they are full of tryptophan.
Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that coverts to serotonin, which then coverts to melatonin.
Best taken in juice form, 30 minutes before your bedtime.
You can also try snacking on dried cherries but it is said that the juice is best.
Calm Magnesium
One of the most vital minerals, and yet most of us are lacking it.
Magnesium plays a big part in the GABA receptors, which is the primary neurotransmitter that calms your central nervous system,
relaxes you, and can help prepare you for sleep. We get a lot of customer feedback that it puts them straight to sleep.
Magnesium also helps with regular bowel movements. Which is great since digestion is another big part of a good nights rest.
Ease Liquid Magnesium
Topical Magnesium Oil that helps you relax in the evening, fall asleep faster, and sleep better throughout the night as it improves your blood circulation.
Chamomile Tea
This is probably one of the most heard of sleeping aids. It tastes good and makes you sleepy.
Of course you can buy it in tea bags, but making your own fresh tea is so much better in many ways, one of them that it can become your ritual,
and will already signal your body that it is time to calm down.
2 to 3 dried chamomile flowers, honey or your preferred sweetener, nut milk (optional), freshly squeezed lemon juice (optional).
Bring water to a boil and let steam for 5 to 6 minutes.
Valerian and St. John's Wort
Are available in tonic form. Both are supportive of the nervous system, and can help to calm body and mind.
Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender is yet another famous natural sleep remedy.
It can be diffused and/or applied to the bottom of your feet, neck and wrist. Inhale and start feeling sleepy. :)
Homemade Essential Oil Sleeping Aid
A lot of essential oils can help and improve our sleep. Just a few drops on the bottom of your feet or in your diffuser can do wonders.
This recipe is a particularly nice blend.
Take a 1ml roll on bottle. Fill it with sweet almond oil or jojoba oil to 3/4. Then add 8 drops of Lavender, Bergamot and Cedarwood.
Apply at the end of your neck, on your wrists and on your feet.
Additionally you can have the same blend running in your diffuser for a great slummer party! Use 2 drops of each oil when diffusing this blend.
Homemade Sleep Milk
Warm up some almond milk and blend in your blender together with 1/2 tsp Ashwaghanda and 1 tsp Reishi Powder. Add some vanilla, honey, coconut sugar or stevia.
Regularity is key when using natural sleep remedies. Give it at least 1 week before deciding that it is not working for you.
More tips on easier and better sleep:
- Make your bedroom your sanctuary, and try not to use it as your living room or office.
- Also have it look tidy since a messy room will probably stress you out.
- Do some sort of exercise every day but not too close to your bedtime.
- Have a sleep schedule, meaning a fix get up and going to bed time.
- Create an evening routine. Take a bath with lavender essential oil, meditate, walk around the block, read a book, write a journal.
- Give up coffee, drink Matcha Green Tea or a coffee substitute, such as Dandy Blend, Teeccino or Ayurvedic Roast.
