Black Seed nigella sativa
Black Cumin Seed or nigella sativa has a rich composition of proteins, minerals, carbohydrates and fats.
Almost all of its fat content is in the form of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids - which are very important for good overall
health and a sound immune system.
The seeds also have around 15 amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein, 9 of which are the essential amino acids.
The pharmacological investigations of the seed extracts reveal a broad spectrum of activities including immunopotentiation and
antihistaminic, anti-diabetic, anti-hypertensive, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial activities.
Many of these activities have been attributed to the quinone constituents of the seeds.*
How to Prepare the Seeds
The seeds have a harsh taste and will burn the stomach of the seeds are not heated first.
Place the seeds on low heat and stir them every few minutes.
Taste the seeds to see when the flavor becomes very bland.
After the tartness is removed take the pan from the heat.
Grind what is needed in a coffee grinder or mortar & pestle and
place in vegetarian capsules or mix a 1/2 tsp powdered seed with
a spoon of honey or yogurt.
